Hmmm… Me thinks I may have chosen a crazy pick for today’s Single of the Day. Why? Because I can think of another song by the Eurythmics that was a major hit for them. One that still stands up today. Maybe I’ll have to post the version of that song done by Marilyn Manson instead – his is pretty wild too.
That being said, what is your ideal Winter Wonderland?
For me it’s the tall mountains of the Rockies. The vast expanses of Pine trees and the usual abundance of snow. This in turn leads to thinking of skiing, or snowboarding. A perfect day on the slopes followed by an evening in front of a fire and huge cup of steaming hot chocolate. To be sipped intermittently between handfulls of popcorn sweetened with organic butter and sea salt. Nestled in a big chair starring at a screen that is playing It’s a Wonderful Life. Ah, Christmas.
Have you ever made a snowman? How about a snow angel? I have. It’s not hard when you’re doing it in a place that gets ridiculous amounts of snow each year.
The song itself reminds me more of Annie Lennox than it does the Eurythmics. Annie is one of the premiere female singers in pop/rock history. Oh my, I’ve just thought of another song of hers that I’ll have to make a Single of the Day. You’ll have to keep coming back day after day to find out when I do finally ever post it.
If you want well crafted synth pop you shouldn’t look much further than the Eurythmics. Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox are masters of the genre. Pay attention all you synth pop creators – steal from the best, but steal from lots of people or band. Don’t loot all from one place. ‘Nuff said.
(** Disclaimer: If the Eurythmics label attempts to put me in a permanent winter wonderland, I’ll be forced to melt the audio off the server. The post will remain to show my pleasure of white. **)
