Ah, the light at the end of my tunnel is coming. Most of my current project is sitting on a server waiting for the mastering guy to do his magic to make it radio ready. I spent a good deal of last night listening intently to all 30 songs. What a large collection. I’m pleased with how it’s turning out. The artwork is finished. Everything is moving right along. The only thing I’m really concerned about is whether or not it has enough spice.
Spice is an interesting thing. It doesn’t take much to add a bit of flavor and truly bring out the right flair. There’s a scene in a not so amazing movie called the Guru. Its in a kitchen between the two main characters who are exchanging teachings. She’s cooking a soup or stew and he puts in a little Cinnamon. She was a bit taken aback that he would do this. He tells her, wait until you taste it, it just needed some flavor. She tastes it and agrees that the little bit of cinnamon gave the meal what it needed.
Personally, I remember Cinnamon toast as a kid. It’s a yummy little treat. No, I’m not talking about the cereal, I mean when your mom makes actual Cinnamon toast. With butter, Cinnamon, and sugar. I’ve never used Cinnamon in anything else, except maybe tea or a hot toddy. I suppose I should branch out a bit and find out if there are other uses for it. Ooh, I just had an idea for my waffles that I make. I’ll have to let you know when I do that.
The Story’s are out of the UK. But I think they have a very American sound. I don’t know if that is an insult, but I think they sound great. A very classic sound. Something that is actually missing from a lot of music today. I can imagine this in a movie soundtrack as a character is taking off on a cross country journey to meet up with his long lost love/lover. Another scenario would be a character left in a deserted or rundown town thinking of ways to get out to find this woman. What do you envision as you hear this type of sound? Maybe a car with a top down cruising across a desert in the fall where it’s beautiful out but not scorching hot? Maybe it’s a windy road in the mountains where the trees have changed colors.
Cinnamon here is a young woman who is adding some spice to the singers life (well the character’s life in the song). I wonder if it’s about a girl with red hair. That would be interesting to find out. Who is your Cinnamon? This is straight up good music. Well recorded, well written, makes you feel good. What more can you ask for?
