If there is one movie in the past year that has made an indelible impression upon me it’s Cars. I remember when Incredibles came out and the trailer for the next Pixar film was Cars. When I had first about it I was a little unsure of the concept. Once I saw the saw trailer I wanted to make sure I saw it. In fact it was the image quality of Incredibles that gave me the reason that from here on out anything Pixar releases is something I will strongly want to see. Cars tops that. It’s like waiting on pins and needles to see the next Pixar film.
Storywise I think just about anyone in the world can relate to one of the characters in the film. They’ve covered a huge range of people – even if it is AmericanCentric (pardon my ‘typo’ it’s me mashing up words and typing them out in what is known as camel text in coding for applications). I think one reason I can relate so well is that I have first hand knowledge of being a big city kid shoved into a small town world. Born in New York – had you read my official website you’d likely know that. Where do I consider my home town to be though? You read far enough and you learn it’s Park City Utah.
Park City?!? You mean that place where they hold that film festival thing called Sundance? Yup. That Park City. Sundance wasn’t always the big thing in town. Did you know that when they first started it up, they couldn’t give the tickets away? Or so my mom told me. That’s right, what has now become THE place to get your movie seen was once a festival no one cared about. Go figure.
There have been several things that have put Park City on the map so to speak. The most important in the last 50 years was skiing! Then comes some famous skiers. In Utah fame it was the Park City Arts Festival. In world fame it was the Olympics. In annual fame it’s now Sundance. Ok, ok, enough.
Despite my current residence in a massive sprawl of a city, Los Angeles. I eventually would like to make a return to small town life. Need a few more rungs up the career ladder though for that to make sense. Would I head back to Park City? I’m not sure. I love that town, but I hate what’s happened to it. There’s so much that has been done in the name of progress that it’s actually destroying the very nature that made it such a cool place to be for a long time. I have a hard time believing that charm will return. Especially since they keep carving up the mountain sides to add more hotels and condos in a town that can no longer keep them filled year round. It’s extremely sad that they keep building in that condition.
Anyway, at this point I can see myself as Lightning McQueen. Racing around attempting to win win win. Mostly with music. The better I get, the music I want to do. The more nominations the more I want to create. Now that I’ve won an award and I’m working on chatting with big investors I’m sorta salivating at the prospect of wanting it all on the big stage. Just gotta get more than my big toe in the doorway so I can kick it wide open.
Tom Cochrane has written what I consider to be one of the best rock songs about life, relationships and travel. Three things we all deal with. Mind you if you’re new to the song and your only taste of it is from Cars you’re gonna wonder who this is. Well, Tom is the original writer and performer of the song. I like the Rascal Flats version too. I’m amazed it’s even considered country because they’ve got it extremely rocked out. To the point I consider their version to be southern rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd. Don’t ask for Freebird, you ain’t gettin’ it.
I realize Tom’s version is from a while back, but what better way to introduce the song than from the man who wrote it and made it hit back in his day? So get in, strap up, rev up, and kick ‘er in gear. Let’s hit the open road and enjoy some time traveling for no apparently reason other than to have fun. In the mean time rent Cars and buy this song! I mean now. There is no way that shouldn’t buy the song. I bet your sitting there right now listening and your foot is tapping and you’re attempting to sing along with the chorus. That’s the true sign of a hit.
(** Disclaimer: If Tom’s label decides to come down on my at high speed, then I’ll be forced to show the audio the highway. The post will remain to show my love for the open road. **)
