I’m quite sure there’s a point in everyone’s life where they have to wonder this question: Why do you get all the love the world? I don’t doubt it one bit. I’d even be willing to bet at one point in your life you felt that same thing. Our greatest leaders and heros have probably also had this question run through their head about someone they knew as well.
There really is no rhyme or reason for thinking like that. Maybe it gets triggered by something silly or by act of hatred I don’t know. There’s also the possibility that tons of things have gone wrong recently. Thus it might mean depression and that the world is out to get you. The harsh reality is that in the grand scheme of things most of the time its a totally baseless feeling. Ouch. For everyone that feels they get no love think about this; even people that are considered evil have at least one person that loves them and thinks the world of them. That includes individuals like Hitler, Bush, or even that mythical being known as the devil. Funny isn’t it? Again, harsh reality.
I remember the first time I had heard a Nine Inch Nails song, I was dancing with a girl to Head Like A Hole. I liked that song so much I pretty much didn’t give the girl much notice. It was such a great change in music compared to what I was into at the time. Ah, progress. See progress is the thing that propels us to try new things. It is also the thing that leads some creative people to refine and perfect what they do.
Trent Reznor is a master of refining what he does. I admire that. Don’t relate that to mean I would give him all the love in the world. I don’t. But he’s one of the few musical artists I can think of the really changed the face of music in a big way. To some he’s considered the father of Industrial music. I don’t know the validity of that. But he certainly brought it to the masses at the right time. Since then he’s gone on to refine that sound. Focus what he originally intended and bring it to a pop sense.
If you don’t own With Teeth, you’re likely missing out on a what is Trent’s second best Album, however it’s probably the best production value album he’s done. Not to mention that his songwriting is finally hitting a very cool stride in my mind. Unfortunely tastes have shifted for most of the consuming public so I don’t think he’s pulling the numbers he used to. I don’t care. I still listen to anything he creates – he’s a visionary. Get this song. Use it to pick yourself up when you feel like you’re not getting any love in the world.
(** Disclaimer: If Trent’s label decides to show me too much love, I’ll have to reciprocate and alleviate by removing the audio. The text proving that love will remain. **)
