Today’s Sunday’s Child is Haile Loren. To start off, I’d like to say that I believe her links to iTunes will be coming very soon. If not, she’d be silly not get on iTunes. You can hear why. She’s got a nice feel in her voice, there’s something about it, that just draws me in.
In fact listening to the song I’m carried on a wispy wind in a dream. One of those dreams where you’re aware of your surroundings and you realize that you’re doing it from a birds-eye view and you know that its not supposed to be possible. Have you ever had such a dream? I have. I actually used to have them more often than I do now. I wonder what Frued would have to say about that. I’m probably some screwed up person who secretly wants to have sex with every woman on the planet, but do so from the perspective of a woman or something crazy like that. Was that a Fruedian slip?!? No, I don’t really want to have sex with every woman.
Ooh, thinking of that dream reminded me of my first and only experience of having a balloon ride. You know, those really large balloons with a crate beneath them. Where they fill it with hot air and it’s floats over the hills. Yes, I’ve done that. I won it at a raffel from my High School graduation. It was for a balloon ride. You know what was most facinating about that little escape from the ground? The process of taking off into the air. If you’ve ever flown in a plane or even a helicopter (something I’ll have to blog about on another day), it’s an entirely different feeling for take off. With a balloon, it’s as if the earth falls away from you. You can’t feel the take off. Suddenly the ground goes away and things get smaller and you’re airborne. It’s a very pleasant experience. The only downside was having to get up before the sun came up, to do it. Otherwise, it’s a moment I’ll never forget.
Hear the sneaky piano line? At first I was drawing comparisons in my head to Tori Amos. As there is a bit of that in there, without the super staccato feel. It’s hinted at, yet is more flowing. I don’t know Haile much more than a couple of e-mail exchanges about the use of her song on the blog, however I’m betting that Tori is an influence. How could she not be? Maybe Haile will comment here and say yea or nea.
I believe she’s got a good runway ahead of her for her career. If she doesn’t take off and fly, something is obviously wrong with things in the world. I did read on her website that her CD is due for a release party later this month. If you’re near her, I’m sure she’d be happy to have you there and even sell ya a copy of the CD. Otherwise its possible that if you’re reading this as an archive there will already be an iTunes link.
