Monday, Monday, Monday… Ever have a day where it seems nothing goes right? I mean truly as if you really didn’t belong in that day at all? I had one of those days yesterday. It was very disheartening after two extremely up days in a row. Up until yesterday I was flyin high. Had a great showcase. I got to meet some great people in the music biz that want to help me out. Then to top it off I was doing some major winning at my poker playing. Yesterday I decided to play poker and it was as if I couldn’t play at all. Like I was mentally challenged, but it wasn’t me making bad plays, it was just a huge run of not good cards. Even if I was dealt a great hand, it got snapped. Needless to say I was depressed about it. I finally had to put a stop to it. I was laughing at the insanity of great hands still losing and when that happens, it’s time to pull the plug and do something else.
Prior to this day I was watching a movie called The Weather Man with Erin. I remember the trailers for it a few months back. It looked interesting but I never got around to seeing it in the theater. Thus it was a blockbuster kinda evening. The movie itself is about a guy who is a weather man on TV. He’s mundane, he’s dealing with a lot of family shit and to top it off people throw things at him. You know the saying where you attract what you think you are. Well, he obviously wasn’t a high achiever and was attracting shit. I must say, there are some extremely funny scenes built around the characters and some very funny dialog.
I’ve never been married but the characters in the Weather Man were. They’re going through a separation and a divorce. But before all that happens the husband and wife attempt to heal the wounds to get back together. They take a group therapy class and during the class the husband makes the mistake of reading a piece of paper that he was supposed to never read, just hold onto. It was a secret that the wife wrote down about him. It’s a trust thing, a very strange one that he failed miserably. Which leads to the ultimate demise of the marriage. Though there’s a scene where they’re discussing problems they had, and one line in particular has to be the funniest thing ever said about giving a blow job that I’ve ever heard. I won’t give it away here, you’ll need to rent the movie. I give it a thumbs up. It’s worth a rental.
So, did I start doing poorly in poker because the drabness of the main character in the movie rubbed off in some magical way? I sure hope not. I’m just gonna chalk it up to a bad run of cards and I believe I’ve played through it now and I’ll be back on the winning side the next time I play.
Since I was having a downer moment, I put on this song by Phantom Planet. You may have heard it before, it’s made the rounds. I just don’t think they’re highly popular. I actually learned about them through a music site known as Pandora’s Box. Phantom Planet is grouped as being similar to The Jellyfish, whom I’ve blogged about in the past. I liked it so much I went right over to iTunes and snatched it up. Now I’m telling you about it. These guys write some incredible music. I love the melodies and the rhythms very much. It very much reminds me of The Jellfish.
If you like this, you really ought to check out the rest of their catalog, it’s super stuff. It’s all very power pop oriented. Get it now!
(** Disclaimer: Should the Phantom Planet’s label decide to really hit me with downer of a day causing me to fall into a depression. I’ll remove the audio so quick it will get kicked out faster than prozac kicks in. The blog text will remain though. **)
