Well we got over hump day and it’s time to express your love. Mind you, I don’t speak much spanish, in fact very very little. Which is a little bit sad considering the fact that at one point I had a Costa Rican girl friend for nearly two years. At one point I attempted to learn some spanish, and actually residing in Los Angeles I’m surprised I didn’t take up more of it. I kinda let it slip away. So occasionally she would speak to me and it sounded beautiful, but alas I didn’t understand it very well. But there is a phrase in this song that I am familiar with and it’s about love and loving another person. At least that’s what I’m pretty sure I’m understanding.
As for Estanis, I appreciate his turning me on to his music. While the reality is I can’t understand the lyrics, he has a very nice soothing quality that I attribute to a lot of latin style music. He’s very much in the latin smooth love song genre. Not a bad thing and it’s certainly something I’ve now expanded my listening into.
One thing I can say for Latin people – they really know how to throw a party and show affection when doing it. My girlfriend organized a huge party at my house. I knew she was doing it. She made up flyers to give to all my friends and her friends. I had just purchased a new giant BBQ grill. I had recently sodded my yard and finished my recording studio. It was a fresh bunch of things. In true fashion when I approve a party at my house, it started at about 1 p.m. and didn’t end until about 3 a.m. It’s been like that for every party I’ve ever thrown at a place I reside. My buddy Jeff Scott Soto was amazed at my ability to throw a party. I threw a couple when I lived with him. They lasted much like the one I just described.
Anyway, getting back to this birthday. We had a great deal of awesome food, lots of carne asada, tamale’s, steak, corn, peppers, mole, fajitas, you get the picture. Thank God we had a lot of people there to eat it all. We even had friends who never trip out of there town show up. Not every one stayed for the entire time, but a few did. There were a few famous guests too. At the end of the night or actually probably around 10 p.m. we had our first and only accident. Two girls decided to sit in my hammock. Unfortunately I didn’t know that I didn’t have it solidly in place and their combined weight brought it down. Fortunately no one was injured. We ended the night playing Truth or Dare Jenga. That was fairly interesting with a group of people that are out of grade school.
Anyway, this song gives me a bit of that memory. Thanks Estanis.
