Let me preface by saying, I was never really into Soundgarden. I could appreciate that they did something that a lot of people enjoyed. But to me their music was hit and miss. It had moments of brilliance that were often overshadowed by stuff I just didn’t care for.
But I did follow the work of certain musicians like Josh Freeze. That boy and play some serious drums. I’ve probably never seen a drummer with as much raw talent as I’ve seen in Josh Freeze. I would very much one day like to work with Josh. It would be a blast. Well a few years ago I found out he was drumming on an album called Euphoria Morning. I decided what the hell, I’ll buy the album and see what’s up. From the moment the CD player began I was hooked hard by Chris Cornell’s passion that comes through on this recording more so than any Soundgarden song I’ve ever heard.
I remember being in a state of flux at that time, and I’m feeling like I’m in a state of flux again. I tend to get that way as I’m finishing up recording projects. If you haven’t been following, or are new to Single of the Day, I’m finishing up a huge Christmas project. I always feel like it’s a big change. Though the reality is I’m still a musician that has a drive to write, record and perform. That’s the pure and simple of it.
As I was saying, I got hooked. I used to parade around my apartment singing along and matching his vocals. It was a great learning experience. I think you should do the same. Buy the CD or at least buy this song and then parade around your dwelling singing at the top of your lungs.
(** Disclaimer: If the euphoria wears off and the label isn’t happy about it, I’ll be wiping the audio from the memory banks. The words shall remain. **)
