Seems I’m hitting a more eclectic week. Must be the delirious ramblings from drinking and too much sun and a birthday. 🙂
Here’s a soothing mellow tune that was featured on iTunes not to long ago. I very much liked it, so I bought it. At first listen Landon has a tendency to remind me very much of Rufus Wainwright. I’m sure most listeners of Single of the Day who are familiar with Rufus won’t disagree. I chose this song today because I’m getting back into the swing of things in Los Angeles. I feel like I am Sailing On. So the title is more moving than anything.
I’m sorta on a kick for non-normal pop rock this week and since I haven’t mastered playing piano, so I can appreciate people that can write a good piano song – even if it is simple sounding. In fact simple sounding is often a sign real musiciality. If you know the artist can truly play. Case in point. When I used to give guitar lessons, I never spent time sitting there shredding licks, scales, arpeggios because it was the students time to learn. Every once in a while someone would ask me to play something shred style, and I’d whip a little something out. Sure enough it would be something they’d talk about to all their friends. So by my not playing things and only doing it when requested I have a reputation that preceeds my playing. I don’t care to be a shredder but I can do it. Last time I was asked about it was by Devin Bronson (Avril Lavigne’s guitarist). He asked if I did any shredding on my CD Practical Insanity. I said no. But then “Days of Our Lives” came on and at the end of the solo he turned his head and said, there’s a little something. I didn’t think so, but he did. Oh Well.
Getting back to Landon. I have no idea if he can really play, but I do like this song. Liked it enough to buy it. So, I think you should do the same. It’s a good song to relax to. We can all use some de-stressing and some relaxing sometimes.
