Here’s to getting your week off to a sultry start. Crea, I discovered her through iTunes and grabbed this particular single. What’s odd to me is that I went looking for her website to link to in this post, and there seems to be no official website anywhere that I could find, so I opted not to post a link to a dead site, which was the only thing I could find (server wasn’t responding). Hmmm… Very odd. At least she’s on iTunes.
The first thing to note is, I’m not a huge connoiseur of R&B. So for me it really has to be a pleasure to listen to. Otherwise I’m off to find something that rocks me a bit more. Now that I’ve got that out of the way, let me say that the main reason I think I like this song at all is that there are verse sections that are very reminiscent of Aaliyah’s ‘Try Again’ song. I happen to really like that song, so it spills over on to this song because of it’s similarity with the vocal rhythm. In fact, I’m a sucker for artists that understand how to rhythmically divide a word up and sing it in a way that sounds cool yet different from how it would normally be spoken. Another artist that is king of that is Alanis Morrisette. I do it to. It’s a great way to stand out from the crowd.
Lot’s of R&B these days is all about the production and not so much about the song. I’m not going to pretend that this song transcends that. It doesn’t. It is very much about the production. You know what? I don’t care. Sometimes to me, the production is the song. If it’s strong enough, then I’ll want to hear it over and over again. The subject matter is a bit dull. U Lied, eh, people do it all the time. Get over it, move on.
I am perplexed that Crea isn’t getting more recognition. Though, I haven’t really delved into the depth of her material. It’s quite possible its not as good as this song. Still I did plunk down the $0.99 for this, so it’s not all bad. Besides, I don’t mind waking up and feeling a little dirty from a bit of debauchery and feeling like I want to continue. Since I can ignore the “message” in the song and concentrate on the musical part of it, that’s what I get out of it. How much more conflicting can I get about it? The answer is: None more.
I bought it. You like it? You buy it. Hear ya tomorrow.
