Welcome to another addition of Sunday’s Child… This one is from an artist that I met somewhere a few years ago, or I actually auditioned for his band or something. Sometimes things become a blur. Maybe its residual aftereffects from time travel and the massive heat wave we had a couple of weeks back.
This is a prime example of – Why the hell is it not on iTunes? I believe Tommy was a bit ahead of his time on the whole use of the marriage of drum loops and some industrial type of production in a Pop sense. I think he’s been doing it a long time. He definitely has a unique sound. I know instantaneously whenever one of his songs come on. The production, the voice, everything about it screams Tommy Henriksen. That to me is the sign of a really amazing artist. Most of the largest bands in the world have that type of musical DNA imprint. That no matter what they do, you recognize it as them. My all-time favorite that is more truly DNA’d than any band in history: Queen. No other band on the planet has their musical DNA so firmly imprinted into their music than Queen. But this is about Tommy.
This particular song is pure pop. But what makes it so cool is the production tricks that are used to really hook you in. The drum loops, the synths, the crunchy guitars, yum. I’m sure that I’ve subconsciously taken a cue or two from the production in Tommy’s material for my own productions. But never directly. After thinking about it now, I probably should.
I don’t believe that Tommy is still pursuing the performing artist angle in music anymore. I think he’s now on to creating music for Film and TV soundtracks. I could be wrong. Maybe that’s the reason he’s decided not to release this material on iTunes. It could also be that somewhere in his past there was a record deal that locked up this material. I don’t really know the answer. Maybe a more informed Tommy Henriksen fan will trip by and give me/us the scoop. Until then, I really don’t know how you can get a hold of the CD other than by visiting Tommy’s website and contacting him. Do that, I bet he’d be warmed up all over with little fuzzies if you did.
