Actually Joey nearly fits Fallen Fridays – if I were bloggin about Europe it’d be a no brainer. Lucky for him I’m not. Again this is one of those times when I’d like to smack the guy on the head and ask why in the hell are you not asking your label to be on all iTunes stores?!? Its probably not his fault, but rather his label’s. What is up with that. You release a semi-famous singer and then not even take the time to make it easy for someone to get a song, or even the whole CD on a global market. It’s rather disappointing actually. Maybe this blog can help change that.
Wanna actually be loved by me? Well, my number is: (818) 2….. Nah, that wouldn’t be smart, passing my phone number here. For as much as I’d love to sit and chat with my many adoring fans I do have things I’ve got to do… (bonus points if you can name the movie and the actor that I’m flattering here). Seriously, I’d love you very much if you bought every one of my CD’s for yourself. I’d love you ten times over if you bought two copies of each and gave them to your boyfriend or girlfriend. I’d love you 100 times over if you by a copy of each for every member of your family. Ok, ok. I’ll stop now – I’d probably be physically wasted in a matter of minutes with all the people that would suddenly take me up on that.
Getting back to Joey Tempest – I can remember when I was very young and hearing The Final Countdown. That was Europe’s big smash hit in what is now termed as Commercial Rock’s heyday. I wouldn’t be able to sing you all the words, but I can certainly remember the melody of that song. Its refreshing to see that Joey is attempting to continue doing his thing. He’s certainly got a good thing going with this song.
What I find most enjoyable is that it is step well away from what I remember of Europe. That’s a good thing in my book, or in this case my ears and my blog and now your ears and eyes. Can you appreciate that? Good! The production on the song shouldn’t go unnoticed. That opening note sounds like a single piano note recorded and then reversed, a fairly neat idea. Usually you hear guitar players doing that stuff. At least Hendrix – Mr. Jimi – did it a lot. Heck, I’ve done it with a guitar solo on my CD Practical Insanity. But I can say I’m not familiar with anyone having done a piano this way. There’s the drum loops and the nice wash guitars providing a thick lush background. I also think what makes it work is the semi-power-ballad formula being used.
I have to appologize to my US audience because I know it’s gonna be tough to find this CD in stores. I’m still unhappy that any artist on iTunes isn’t available globally in all stores. I mean, hell if I am – and I’m not famous yet – why shouldn’t everyone else be. It’s just plain stupid. So, get on myspace or call your european relatives and/or friends and have them buy you a copy and ship it to you. I promise you won’t be disappointed with the rest of it.
(** Disclaimer: If Joey’s label attempts to bring me to my knees and gives me a final countdown, I will pull this song faster than an atomic bomb can wipe out the earth. The words will stay put until the internet’s final countdown though. **)
p.s. – methinks that at some point in the future I will probably feature Europe as a Fallen Friday.
