Ever get something in your head that you want something? I got it in my head that I wanted to rent a particular movie last night and off I went to the local blockbuster. Lo and behold, they didn’t have it. So I ended up renting something else that would be a comedy, since that was what I was looking for. I got Death At A Funeral. A British comedy. If you haven’t seen, I will highly recommend it. If you’ve ever been to a funeral, then I believe you can appreciate the humor that ensues.
Yesterday ended up being a bit productive, got the first draft of a song finished, 45 more to go I think. I also began lyrics for a co-write with a friend out of New York. I’m not sure what the response is so far, so I’m awaiting what he things. I’ll be starting the lyrics to yet another song today. Then I have a song writing session tomorrow with Johnny Elkins.
Right now if I had a nickel for all the times I’m told things are happening for the corporate stuff that I’ve been awaiting news on, I believe I’d have the money I’ve been waiting on for all the promotional stuff. At some point I’m going to go insane with all this waiting. So while I’m doing that I’ll leave you with another artist who is in the steps of getting their music out there.
Josh Fix is a cat who is certainly influenced by the likes of peeps like Queen and Elton John. There’s no question about it. In fact in the way it’s cool to bring retro into the current times it’s a little strange to hear it. I’m still on the fence of whether it’s really cool or if it’s the wrong decade. Obviously I like the guy’s music. In fact of all the tunes I browsed through this was the one that really struck me as the most appropriate to hook a new listener with. It’s got an earthy vibe with sprinklings of the whole Queen vocal thing.
If I were a betting man, this is the song I would lead off with. The intro is strange. You can hear how it begins with this nice acoustic guitar intro and whoof it switches gears and goes piano in what feels like a whole different feel and vibe. The huge vocals is actually very cool. It was massively popular in Queen’s catalog. I have no idea how many bands actually emulated that, but I can think of ELO, though not to the extent of Queen. Of course the slightly blues bounce of the song also helps a lot.
Another thing you get out of Josh on this song is the fact that it’s got a lot of movement in terms of the feel. Ups and downs. Stops in the beat, changes of the feel. It’s very cinematic in a classic sense. Which is cool. If you’re getting the feel of this song, then you need to explore more of his CD. In terms of getting the CD you’ll probably only find it digitally. Maybe he sells physical copies at shows, but I could not find it at CD Baby or Amazon. Hunt him down and tell him you want the plastic disc!
