There’s an interesting little twist to the Los Angeles Library system. At least I learned that the other day. I got a phone call as I had requested an item that wasn’t in my local branch. Of course the cool thing about libraries is that they can get them if they are in the system. However, if you request something, it turns out that you need to follow thru with actually checking it out or they will charge you.
What did I request and then check out from the library? A language course for learning to speak Dutch. Of course when I had requested it, I had a really good reason. I want to be one of those people that can speak several languages. I think it’s a cool thing to be able to do. I took French and German in school. I sorta started Spanish when I was dating a girl from Costa Rica. Of course there was some female influence for the Dutch desire, however, that has unfortunately been nixed since I had made the request. Despite that I took the course and start listening to it last night. I figure I’ve got it for a week before I split, I’ll see how much I can absorb before I take it back.
Last night I learned how to ask if someone can or can’t speak English or Dutch in a polite way. I also learned what to call a guy or a girl. This is in addition to a couple little things the Dutch girl had imparted on me in written form prior to the dissolution of direction.
Maybe at some point she’ll wake up and realize what she made a decision on, wasn’t the one she wanted to make. Time will tell.
Which brings me to Wide Eyed Sleeper. One of the members brought their music to my attention. This is the track that seemed to reach out to me. I particularly like the intro guitar riff very swingin and sexy for an acoustic thing. There’s no doubt that it has a very Led Zep vibe to it. Then the vocal sits in and gives a sense of a Robert Plant without the Robert Plant tone. Get thru the verse and boom in comes the rest of the band to push the song right along.
I dig the down to earth rock nature of the tune. There’s really cool feel with it. The production sounds quite good on my laptop, I can hear the space of the instruments. Which isn’t always easy on small speakers. That’s a plus here.
Anyway, I’ve got to go get on with the rest of my day, I’m up now. Go wake up for yourself and enjoy Wide Eyed Sleeper.
