FADE IN: A nondescript house in a suburb of Los Angeles. A phone rings and a musician answers it. The voice on the other end of the line comes in.
JOHN
You’re not gonna believe this, but the movie that is being filmed at my studio had their guitar player flake on them this morning. Can you make it over here? It’s a paid gig.
JODY
Yeah sure. How long do I need to be there. I have some other things.
JOHN
I believe it’s only for about four hours. Let me double check.
JODY
Great.
JOHN muffles about on the other end of the phone. He comes back on the line.
JOHN
They need a full day until 5 p.m.
JODY
Ok, let me see about shuffling things around.
JOHN
They also need a drummer. Know anyone?
JODY
I’ll make some calls.
JODY starts making some phone calls to shuffle his schedule and starts calling drummers he knows. So far he’s striking out with drummers, mostly because of the time frame needed.
CUT TO: Recording studio.
JODY walks into the set area. Members of the film crew are staring at him wondering what he’s doing. A crew member comes up looking to exert a little authority.
BRETT
Can I help you?
JODY
Yes, I’m here for the film shoot. I got a call to be the guitar player.
BRETT
Ah, ok, let me show you around…
JODY is led inside and introduced to several people who are all getting things rolling with the film shoot. He finally gets sat in the makeup chair, is done up and put in the proper clothing. The director plays JODY the song he will be performing in the studio so that he can look like he knows what the hell he is doing.
*****
Yes that was the start to my day today.
I’m on set now, so I’ll cut to the song for today, that way you can enjoy yourself. Do I know the name of the film. Yes. Do I recognize some of the actors? Yes. Am I at liberty to disclose any of this? I have no idea and I’m not about to ask. Instead I’m going to enjoy the perks of being on a movie set.
It’s a ditty by a little band called Caroline’s Spine. It’s called True Star. Think of this song with it’s driving beat, it’s soaring melody in the chorus, and the riffs that roll with it. It’s quick and too the point, much like a bright shooting star.
Dig it? Go get it now!
