You know it’s fun to communicate with people. Some forms are more fun than others. Two that have sometimes been frustrating as of late would be IMing and Texting. The main reason is you can be mid conversation with a friend and then all of a sudden they stop responding. Usually it leads one to wonder: what the fuck?!? Did I say something that didn’t translate for one reason or another? That’s the shit that runs thru my head anyway.
Usual excuses come back as, I ran out of battery, I didn’t get the messages, I lost signal, or my favorite ‘I fell asleep’. One of those are suspect, another is kinda reasonable, the rest are bordering on the why not warn the other party?
Then there’s the kind of communication that you can enjoy because people are saying nice things about you behind your back. It would be fantastic to get those messages thru the ether. Such is the bonus of something like Twitter or some other thing like a blog. This morning there was a tweet by @mightymur who tweeted about a road trip and music with a recommendation to purchase @jodywhitesides’s Christmas music cause it’s awesome. Now that’s a cool thing.
I suppose I take some things a little too close to heart with some friends. Especially for as aloof as they might think I am. Maybe it’s a holiday’s thing. Maybe it’s an ego thing. Don’t know. I do know that good communication tends to solve a lot of things. Sometimes good communication will screw you, but those moments are few and far between.
Good communication is how I came to be in possession of the demo you’re listening to right now. I was getting to be pretty good friends with a guy named Kevin Packard who is a massive Imperial Drag fan. His music is very much in their niche. It was thru him that I procured the demo. Of course I’ve met Eric and Roger a couple times as well, though I doubt they’d really remember me from a hole in the wall. Roger and I share a common endorsement thru Native Instruments. Eric I’ve shared a show billing with.
I’m getting to a point that I’m not sure if I’ve featured an artist back to back on Single of the Day. However, I do know that I’ve not featured one back to back with saturday and sunday. The album of Imperial Drag has roughly 15 songs, plus a bonus tune. However there were approximately 23 songs recorded for it. Today’s selection is one of those songs that didn’t make the album. It’s understandable as to why it didn’t make from a style standpoint. From a song writing and listening aspect it’s not so easy to understand. It’s a really fun song with strong southern rock vibe to it. A southern rock thing mixed with pop.
The intro is an easy to attach with acoustic guitar. Boom, simple. I especially like the flow of Eric’s vocal over that guitar. It’s got the nice scratch that makes it sound perfect for an edgy pop rock thing. The song builds at each part it comes to. Eventually it hits full stride and kicks off swaggering down a road to a lyrical story that gives the listener an inside scoop to a woman who has hit stardom without being prepared for it.
Then we hit the guitar solo done with a very southern slide guitar style. Again another melodic little piece that slides it’s way into your brain. Like yesterday’s song the music morphs for the outro. Providing an interesting end to the song. It’s unfortunate that I don’t have a better recording of the song. It’s also too bad that they or their label hasn’t seen fit to release the songs that didn’t make the CD. I’ve got most of them, if not all of them and they’re all really fucking good songs.
I’m off to go ride a mountain. Have a great day! And remember @mightymur’s announcement on Twitter.
