When I got up this morning I had an idea of what I wanted to write about and now that it’s time to sit down to the post it has slipped into the ether. Bummer. I do have another thing that I was a bit unhappy about this morning. I woke up with a stuffy head. I hate to place blame but I do have to point something out. If you are sick, don’t think your work is so friggin important that you HAVE to be somewhere. What do I mean? An artist the other night at the showcase was ill. Instead of bowing out of the event they decided to remain. Thus singing into a microphone ill. A microphone being shared by others. The only thing I can say to that is – asshole.
I have no doubt that this won’t mushroom for me as I’ll do some Ozone. However, I’m really getting to the point where it disappoints me that people feel compelled to soldier on while sick when it’s not a life or death matter. Is this what you do?
Switching gears…
Ever wake up in the morning and actually remember a dream? I don’t do that very often. I rarely remember dreams. But this morning I did. It was weird. It involved a pretty girl who was 6’4″. I don’t think I’ve ever met a girl that tall (my height). For some reason it was a real eye opening experience. Shocker, she was a basketball player. There was something very alluring about it. I remember elements about her face, her hair, obviously her height and build. Would that end up being the ideal? Who the hell knows. She even had a name – Christine. What the hell am I supposed to make of that?
What does any of this have to do with the song choice for today? Absolutely nothing!!!
Neal Fox is has a real eclectic little vibe going on. Obviously if you’re listing Beck as an influence one has to expect that. I like the mysterious vibe that is set up from the get go. While it’s obviously a non major release in terms of the recording, it doesn’t detract from the coolness of the song. I really like the movement of the harmony. It’s got some depth to it. It also means that Neal’s other influences are madly stuck in. Peeps like Harry Chapin, The Beatles, etc…
The lyrics are rather dark. Nothing wrong with that. It’s a full on story. Very timely, or rather reflecting of a lot of issues that strike at the heart of the American way these days. I don’t see the world that darkly, but then I tend to ignore a lot of the ignorance these days. In way, that makes me ignorant and as the saying goes: ignorance is bliss.
Enjoy your day in such a way that you’re not a zero with a gun. Get out of the chair and take a walk outside and smell some air. Then grab Neal’s CD and feel like you’ve accomplished something today.
