Last night I was deep in a writing session with on Jesse Stern. We’re nearly finished with a CD of instrumental funk tunes that are beginning to cover a wider range of funk. It’s a definite bonus that he is so well versed in the style. He should be, he’s played bass with Sly Stone in the past couple of years. Gotta be on your game if you’re doing that. 🙂
Today will be seeing the shift of furniture in the house to make way for sanding and refinishing the floor. It’s exciting to know that the floors will be finished by Monday afternoon and the house will be closer to being back to normal.
I’ve also watched a couple of movies in the past 12 hours about food and the body. It’s so amazing to learn the counter arguments to what the AMA and other companies that are fiscally involved are doing. Glad that I was raised to question where my food comes from and I’m happy that I still do.
Do I think what I eat makes a big difference? You bet. Hopefully you do to.
Ok, music time, then sanding…
Since I’m feeling a little spicy and funky and need to get a groove on I’m going to plaster the song Fuck You right here, right now. It’s by a group called Mourning Widows that was led by Nuno Bettencourt. I really like the groove of the verse. Super sly. Cool bass line and smoking drum groove. I’m not overly enthusiastic about Nuno’s singing, but hey, I wasn’t always a singer that people wanted to listen to as well. He gets the job done, but I do think there could have been better choices, especially with his musical clout.
On top of the funky groove being laid down by the drums, bass and synth is the downright fire breathing guitar licks and solo. That’s the thing that Nuno could always do, play a mean guitar with some serious rhythm. In my mind he is last true guitar hero type of persona. Are there other guitarists that can play with such fire? Sure (I know a few personally) But they’re not name brands.
Go get some mourning on.
