Sometimes people, places and things can surprise you. Yesterday overall was an extremely frustrating day. Making phone calls and attempting to conduct business that I was promised was done – that wasn’t – leaves me with cleaning up the mess. The sad part is, the mess didn’t get cleaned up because everyone everywhere is dropping the ball. I know that I really need to take a deep breath, take a step back and let it out. Maybe that’s a part of the reason I’m doing Single of the Day.
Thus I decided after pushing through the initial stages of a mix for the drum tracks recorded thursday to watch a flick. Though I did watch Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull thursday night. I had to watch another movie last night. It’s my way of escape. Instead of being fully engrossed in the movie, I was multislacking. What were the slacks – chatting with a friend on AIM, reading a new book, listening to a movie, and eating dinner.
The friend was having back issues – not something that would be fun. The book is a great read and I’m already applying ideas and they work which is great – my friend with the back issues will confirm they work even through online chat. The movie was Cars and that’s an awesome flick – I don’t care what anyone says. Dinner was from one of the best Mexican places in LA. Turning frustration into something to forget isn’t always easy, but I managed it.
Today will be a bit more of the same. Hermosa Beach is calling to hung with and I’m obliging the call and ready to Go. A new friend will be getting a phone call and a request to go. I’ll see if they’ll go too as it’s always the more the merrier.
My pick today is one where I have to pull a band from the depths of Fallen Friday. I’m pretty sure I already featured Def Leppard as such a while back. Thinking it was over for the day under the sun they had a decade ago. When you see a buddy singing for a former great band, and they’re opening for another aging metal era band you think it’s really time for them to retire and open the doors to younger cats like myself.
Well, I’m going to eat a little crow here. Another friend suggested that I check out the new Def Leppard for something that rocks. So I hopped over to iTunes and took a listen. Here’s my assessment… It’s rare for a band that has fallen from the glory light to make a strong comeback. Especially after a couple of mediocre releases. However I have to give mad props to Def Leppard. They have managed to bring themselves forward into the double-ots with out sounding forced. I’m bobbing my head and massively enjoying the pre-chorus for it’s very cool descending melody.
There are other elements of tried and true production ideas – something the Lep has never been short on. Combine them all up with a group that seems to have found it’s songwriting glory again and I’m happy with my purchase. How about you? Will you be a thief or an awesome fan?
