There’s nothing like having an off day. I don’t mean a day off. I mean an off day. One where you’re definitely out of sync with everything else. For me, yesterday was one of those days. I had it in my mind that I would be working on some lyrics for a song. Instead an uneasiness came over me. Not long after that I had a not so nice headache brewing.
I had to lay down. I didn’t want to eat. A friend called and asked what I was going to do after the call. My response was a nap. That ended up lasting much longer than I wanted. Which in turn led to filling the void with watching Touching The Void and other movies on my laptop while I drank water and stayed still.
I got another phone call from a friend who I hadn’t heard from for a few months. She was telling me how she recently went on vacation with a few other friends and one of my songs came on and they all started talking about it. Very cool story. Fun to hear people excited about music. Especially when you’re not feeling musical.
Follow this up with a message board that I haunt now and then. A fellow writer, whom I’ve never met, posted a question and a bit of praise for me. It’s always nice to be recognized by your peers. It’s even nicer when they believe you’re destined for greatness.
Which leads me to an old hit by one of my favorite artists…
Big Time.
The thing I like about Peter is his attention to sonic detail. Everything about the sounds he achieves on his records helps to amplify the amazing song writing that has gone into the songs. The mood, the vibe, the spirit. It’s in there. Even with a song like Big Time, there’s a sense of playfulness. You get the tongue in cheek nature of the message. Besides, I don’t think there’s an emotion that Peter hasn’t left on the floor.
Ever seen his show live? I haven’t but I’ve been given the DVD package of Growing Up. It’s an adventure to say the least and I enjoyed every minute of it. The concepts, the stage show. Everything is thought out. It’s fantastic.
This is what inspires me to make an impact.
How about you?
