Get me down. Or so the song goes. It’s a rainy Monday, so I suppose that makes it a double whammy doesn’t it? I’m not depressed, actually far from it. I’m a little slow on the uptake today, still recovering from the ear thing a couple of days ago, my hearing is returning. That’s a good thing. I’m gonna give a E.N.T. a jingle probably tomorrow to setup and appointment to find out about the nutty-ness that is going on in my ear. Hopefully it’s nothing more than a temporary infection.
The media player is getting ever closer to getting finished, I started linking audio files last night. It’s near done. I have to get it to link the video files as well. Then I need to add a couple of little things like a progress bar and the play time and it’s ready for version 1 prime time. Yippee. Most likely I’ll get that sewn up by tonight. But I’m not making any promises. Better to just say it’ll be ready, when it’s ready. Once I do get it done, I’ll be diving back into the writing of music process. Lots of ideas are half finished. May as well get them finished while I’m waiting on the touring and promotion stuff.
I’ll admit I was never a big Soundgarden fan. I’ve probably already stated that on the blog post I did some time ago about Chris Cornell. There are a few songs Soundgarden had that I do really like, this one is probably my favorite. Part of what made me think of Soundgarden is the recent announcement that Chris was leaving Audioslave. A smart move on his part if you ask me. I’m a Chris Cornell fan and I can appreciate that he’s putting himself out there into different projects. He’s a great writer and phenomenal singer, but somethings are better left not done. Audioslave was one such project that I felt wasn’t a good fit for Chris. Only one song they did ever made me go, yeah, that’s a good one. That song was Like A Stone. Maybe at some point I’ll blog about that one.
I’m sure a bunch of Soundgarden fans were ecstatic to hear about Audioslave’s bust up. Probably thought it meant Chris would put it back together. Again, I think it’s smart that he’s not doing that. The man is writting all kinds of songs for other artists and movies. If there’s a driving force in Rock like Chris, I don’t know who it is. In a way he’s sorta parallel to Prince. Chris is to Rock as Prince was to Pop. That’s a brilliant place to be. Hell, I’d love to be there. I can’t lie. It would be amazing to be that in demand. I need to do more writing, the more you write, the better you get. Plus I dig exploring.
“Follow me into the desert as thirsty as you are…” I love that line. With a voice like that I certainly can. He’s got a range I could only dream of. It ranks right up there with Myles Kennedy. Those two have what I think are perfect voices for modern rock. As much as I’d love to have that, I don’t. I’m somewhere else in a straight up rock thing as far as a vocal – much thicker not quite as gravel-ly. Who knows maybe after a tour I might have that gravel too. As far as the range, I’d likely have to cut my nuts off, my voice is pretty dark and not as high. Oh well.
If you don’t have this song, you’re missing out on one of the truly great Soundgarden gems.
(** Disclaimer: If Soundgarden or their label decides to leave me stranded in the desert, I’ll have to wash the audio from the server. The post will remain to show one goal I have, to get a different voice. **)
