How about a little morning intellectual stimulation? A definite change of pace wouldn’t you say? Maybe you’ll have a smart week. Not long ago on one of the more popular stations here in Los Angeles they started doing a show on Sunday’s called The Tasting Room. The show is hosted by non other than Tom Leykis. Maybe you’ve heard of him, maybe you haven’t. Tom is generally known for his weekday show called simply enough The Tom Leykis Show. The weekday show is a show about how men tend to think, or at the very least how he thinks they should think.
Said show is quite controversial most of the time. One thing about that particular show is that you can’t deny his logic. It’s always solid whether you like what he has to say or not. Tom is a self-made man who happens to be a multi-millionaire. While the weekday show is targeted at young males with beer style taste, his weekend show is substantially different. The Tasting Room is about fine wines and liquors. He brings in wine makers that discuss how their product is made and why it tastes the way it does.
Mind you, you can’t experience the product unless you get to the store. Though I’ve only heard his Sunday show a few times, it is interesting to hear about the process they go through. Maybe this the kind of stuff you start liking as you progress past the age of 21. Especially if you like to expand your taste in the culinary world. Lucky for me my sister has become a good source of wine knowledge as well. She’s an architect in Sonoma County, a big area for wine affectionados. She’s in demand because she works her ass off. Several wineries now bear buildings with her designs. Thus they share wine tips with her.
The sound of that radio show is more jazz oriented. The sound that is often associated with wine. In fact I can easily imagine today’s song as something that would be just right for it. Additionally I figure that it’s good for upscale dinner parties. Ever had one? Ever been to one? There’s something to be said for having the right wine for the food being served. The same can be said for the music being played too. If you’ve never done such a party for your friends, let me suggest that you do. It’s fun to have great food, great friends, great wine, and great music.
Time to expand your taste. Let Mike’s music be a part of that expansion.
Blues for C is an enjoyable piece. While listening to it, I feel more like picking up the pace here at work. Great job Mr. Spinrad.

That’s certainly a good thing. Anytime music gets you up and moving more productively it’s a major bonus. Glad to hear it. Hope you’re showing Mike some support!
