As I’m here in Utah, I can think of things I do and don’t miss. Yesterday I went skiing. That I miss terribly. Interestingly enough my home town of Park City has become something I don’t miss – overly expensive. What is crazy is that a day of skiing now costs more at Park City than a Deer Valley. Don’t know anything about the two? Well Deer Valley caters to multimillionaires. They groom most of their runs, carry your skis, have fantastic food, etc… Park City isn’t a terrible resort however they don’t supply near the amenities. Yet Park City is now $81 a day. Last year it was $72. I’m not sure what justifies that much of an increase. Whereas Deer Valley is now $79 and last year was $75. Even their half day passes are considerably cheaper. Very weird.
Another thing I miss, snow. Something I don’t miss: Drying out so much at night that I can not breath. Not fun. I miss the pizza. That’s something, cause there’s something about the altitude and humidity that lends itself to great pizza. Go figure. I miss that because I’ve yet to find really good pizza in Southern California. I’ve now found great pizza in Northern California in Santa Rosa.
I do miss the mountain style of living. I don’t miss how crowded it’s now become. With it comes a different style of music. Which leads to today’s choice.
Missin’ You by Kathy Chiavola is a earthy type of song that I know resides in the Park City element. That Americana style of blues fits right in in this neck of the woods. There’s even a good dose of cross-over that would allow this song to work in a more country arena, more traditional venues of course. Not the pop country that has taken over the airwaves. Even more fitting would be in something like Joel and Ethan Coen’s O’ Brother Where Art Thou? Time period pieces would go nuts for a tune like this, don’t ya think?
Even with the flavor it has, there is that bouncy vibe I tend to be a sucker for. Plus it seems to roll well after that old school blues from yesterday. I think it makes a great addition to anyone’s list of things to listen to when they’re visiting places you really shouldn’t see before you die. I’m kidding of course. It will go nicely on iPods everywhere. Pipe up and let Kathy know your scootin’ with the groovin’.
