Doom and gloom. That’s how all the major news outlets attempted to paint the travel of yesterday. Talking about how early to leave, how frustrated everyone will be. Speaking about attitude, etc… Control by fear – that’s the order of the current presidency isn’t it? What a joke. The freeway in Los Angeles was empty. I ended up arriving at the airport waaaaaaaaaaaaay early. Instead of jerky people, everyone was extremely nice and polite. Noone was overly stress out. The line for security was reasonable. In fact, in terms of travel it really felt no different than any other time that I’ve flown. So much for the headaches.
Since news and TV seem to spread so much fear, I wonder if I need to take my sister’s approach. If you’re an avid reader to the blog you probably already know I don’t own a TV. However, I still scan a bunch of news sites in order to keep up on current events. Over dinner last night, we found out that not only does she not watch her TV, she doesn’t even read the news. Thus every current thing we brought up, she really had no idea about it. This isn’t to say my sister is stupid. Quite the opposite. She’s a brilliant architect. She’s so busy she doesn’t have time. I guess it’s all in what you make time for. She’s certainly in her own bubble.
Today, I’m making time for stuffing. One of my favorite things about Thanksgiving. Oh the stuffing. I’m stuffed. Stuffed like the bird that was eaten. Passion of the bird. That’s what Americans have with turkey, passion of the bird. It’s a full meal served by a restaurant and staff. I can’t wait to see if I’ll enjoy it any differently in the company of family. I don’t think it will be much different from my excursion last year. Other than it will now be two years in a row of heading to a restaurant.
Since so many Americans tend to overeat, especially on a day like today, I figured it would be good to plant in the mind the idea of walking. Even if it is slow walking. That’s what makes this tune so appropriate. It’s your theme song for getting off the ass and walking the oversized meal off. Something so few actually do. It’s your turn to stand up and do for a change.
Another good change is how Béla brings the banjo to the forefront in a jazzier situation. I’ve mentioned it on the blog before and I’ll mention it again. This is some kick ass playing. You gotta respect an artist that can twist an instrument to a style it wasn’t initially designed for. I’m impressed. Now get back to walking or Wii’ng, or something.
(** Disclaimer: If Béla’s label ends up walking all over me, I’ll have to be the opposite of slow in removing the audio from the server. The post will remain to show how staying current can be good. **)
