A producer that I met last year contacted me out of the blue today. Here’s a guy that I had tried many times to follow up with when I created a track for an artist that he’s producing. The first time we were to meet he completely blew me off. Second time he was an hour late. When we finally chatted about the direction of the track, I went to work and created something. When he finally got around to listening to it, he loved it. The artist loved it.
Next step was to work with the artist to create the right lyrics for the track. Our first writing session resulted in a need to re-work the lyrics. If you hadn’t guessed, the the producer dropped her off late. The second lyric session resulted in her showing up late to. See a pattern here?
Because they were talking money, I put up with it, until I offered to hook her up with the appropriate mic for recording her voice. One of my endorsees agreed to send me out a mic to run with a bunch of other mics that I had a studio bring over for her to test out. This time it wasn’t only my time they were wasting, it was a friend of mine’s time. Sadly, I had scheduled her an hour earlier than my friend to arrive and lo-and-behold they showed up over two and half hours late!! I chastised her at that point. I chastised him.
At first the only reason I put up with it was the company of artists he’s worked with. He’s got credits. But I’m attempting to figure out how. Someone with this much of a disregard for another person’s time is not worth it. Especially after having gone to meet them where they were sitting around playing video games and drinking.
I stopped contacting him and still had a track that I wanted to get with another writer with. So I called my PRO rep and asked for someone to complete the track with. I sent him a copy of the track so that he’d know who I should call. He did mention one guy, whom I’ve placed a call to but haven’t heard from. He mentioned another cat and mentioned that he wasn’t keen on having me meet the guy. He spoke of some instances of wasted time and I ask if it was [name removed]. He said yes and I let him know that it was said person I was already annoyed with.
Well that person texted me. Asked me what was up. Strange. Out of the blue. Haven’t spoken in several months. Didn’t seem to understand that I have no further desire to work with him. But rather than say anything, I texted back with all the positive stuff going on and sent it. Nothing about the track. Nothing about working with him. Nada. Like another artist/friend I’ve recently asked to stay away from me.
Which brings me to the concept I’m feeling towards this guy, Goin Nowhere. While the song you’re hearing is about a relationship, mostly likely between a boy and a girl, I’m going to roll with it in a business sense where the whole idea of working with someone ends up going nowhere.
I’m diggin the funky nature of the song. It’s reminiscent of say a Maroon 5. Though they have that vibe, they really have their own thing. I’m referring to Feelgood that is. Yes, there is no space between their two squished together names. It’s almost a pop hip hop kinda thing. I’m hearing elements of something that says it’s more retro in it’s sounds. Maroon 5 is retro in it’s writing. Feelgood is retro in the sounds they’re laying down, but with a bit more of an adventurous writing than a 70’s band. It will be interesting to see how their sound progresses on their next release.
Until then, go get your song and may your life not be Goin Nowhere in relationships or love.
Jody. Really appreciate the review man. I think your application of the song’s concept may be more appropriate than what it was intended to be! Glad it synced with somethin real in your life.
keep in touch
