Today marks the 2nd time I’ve been out running without shoes on a longer distance run. Though I’m still taking it a bit easy. I noticed that I’m feeling better about it already. I can really feel it in my calves. My feet didn’t feel nearly as tender after the run this morning. That’s a fantastic thing.
More people noticed that I was running shoeless this time around. A lady walking her dog told her dog that it shouldn’t bother me because I had no shoes. There was a grade school that I was running by where students were on a mid-morning snack break or something. While I had my iPod on, I could still easily hear every student that decided to state the obvious. No less than at least 15 complaints or observations that I needed my shoes, that I had forgotten my shoes or that I was shoeless. Rather comical.
I got to thinking about it as I passed another grammar school with younger kids when a little girl looked at me and saw I had no shoes on. Her expression said it all. She wasn’t sure of what to make of it. What I got to thinking was how as kids we’re taught to make sure we have shoes and that we tie them on. Being barefoot is a freeing concept but it goes against the “rules”.
Most of my friends think I’m nuts for doing it. But a few have friends who already do it and don’t really mind.
It definitely provides something to talk about, that’s for sure.
The question is, with Halloween coming up and several parties that I can attend, I need to consider what the costume will be. I’m taking suggestions. Maybe I could be shoeless Joe Jackson, that was a famous baseball player right?
Whatever the costume I would like to make sure that it’s the kind of fun we all want to have. Bring the house down with a tractor pull or something! Which brings me to a group of students from Canada that took it upon themselves to do a video to a fun song by the Black Eyed Peas.
I get the feeling this group fully expresses the concept of being the life of the party. All picking a part and playing it up. Of course the pulsing beat of the music helps a whole bunch. So does the vibe of the song, it’s energetic, it’s upbeat, it’s got a fun message and it’s easy to sing along to. That’s a very winning combination.
I’m sure you’ve had to have heard this song by now. If not, go get it and add it to your fun list!
Love it! I think we have someone who trail runs barefoot around here. I say ouch….but since I can’t afford a new pair of running shoes, maybe I’ll give it a shot. How do you clean your feet when you are done?
