Maybe there was something to my post yesterday about the fires, the heat and snow…
Nah, I’m not that delusional. The reality is, it’s a nice change of pace this morning. Clouds covering the skies of southern california and providing a nice break from the heat. According to the news and the fire department it should help fire fighters with the blaze that is still going like gang busters. That’s enough about that.
Time for some more music. Last night I was knee deep in mixing when I got a call from a friend in Vegas. A long time musician who is breaking into the world of recording. Of course he’s using the same program I use and because I’m proficient I’m the go to person for tech calls.
On my own front I was put thru the paces on some revisions for a loop CD that I’m working on with a friend. Actually it really wasn’t all that hard. It more the fact that time needed to be put in to explain what changes were needed. iChat to the rescue. Conferencing while recording. He’d explain, I’d discuss, then I’d record. Made it go much faster and now it should be ready for the next phase.
Today I’ll spend a little time on several songs. Finishing an initial mix for one of my new songs. Then completing a demo for a library thing. Oh, and creating one more tune for that loop CD.
Let’s get to today’s pick…
Being that a lot of people have been evacuated from their homes here in LA I can imagine they’d want to have the fire department to take them home. Which brings me to Take Me Home by Ian Kelly. Initially I’ll say that the title instantly reminds me of a comedy bit by a friend of mine. If you ever get a chance to hear Dave Zasloff do a bit called Take Me Home, you will laugh your ass off. But I digress…
Ian has a real easy going folk like quality going on it this song. Once the drums slide in, the groove really sets in on the song and brings it home. In terms of building a song, this is a great example of slowly adding instruments to the mix. Each instrument helps to build the house the song is creating. You start with a part or two for the foundation, then compile more and more stuff on it to make it the place you want to reside in.
Ian has certainly created a very cool atmosphere to turn around and wrap yourself up in. That’s about the best I can explain it. The CD may be a little difficult for us to get here in the States, however it is on iTunes and that makes it very easy to pick up. Go get it now!
Hi Jodi, About Ian Kelly your “build the house” analogy is perfect. If you like it in “Take Me Homeâ€, the studio version, you would flip to see it live. We were lucky enough to have Ian perform at our fund raiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. It was this past weekend in Toronto. The guy just blows you away in concert by “building†each song and in the same way the entire concert. At our gig he did “Take Me Home†as his encore. He was appearing at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto the next night and after our… Read more »
