Last night I took a little trip down to the House of Blues on Sunset. My friend Aubrey was playing fiddle for a girl name Aime Lynn (I think that’s how her name is spelled). So I figured it would be fun to go check out the show, especially since she was kind enough to put me on the guest list. What I didn’t expect was the fact the show was sold out. My buddy Mike wanted to go, then called down to find out the show was sold out. He’s a country fan, I’m a music fan. Apparently the headliner Jason Aldean has quite a following in Los Angeles. Or rather the southern california area.
Aime’s set was highlighted by Aubrey’s playing and performing. But the crowd was there for Jason.
Jason hit the stage and I was actually taken aback at how good his show was. From the moment he stepped on that stage to the moment he finished he had command of it. I don’t see that very often in other performers. But Jason has it. Another thing Jason has is a background of hard rock and metal. I believe it’s the first time I saw a country band play country metal. It was different, it was fun, it was entertaining. To top it off, Jason can sing and that’s something I can appreciate. I mean really appreciate.
Afterwards, Aubrey, myself, John, and Stew, went up to the Foundation Room to hang out after the show. John started buying drinks and we all got a little nutty. I met Tulley, Jason’s bassist, I met his drummer and his guitarist as well. Nice guys and very happy to be recognized. They’re solid players.
I was so impressed I ended up buying the material. In essence, that’s a pretty powerful performance he gave that prompted me to go buy his music when I’m not a massive country fan. He’s got hard rock / metal sensibility, a powerful groove, and a twang. It’s a weird mix, but he’s making it work and work really well. If you get a chance to see him play live, I recommend it – that’s coming from a rock and pop guy.
Get it now!
p.s. – his new album is due out April 7th I believe.
