There’s a little treat going on in another corner of the world wide web. It’s especially fun if you like Christmas and things called an Advent Calendar. A friend of mine, Grant Baciocco, has been doing a video podcast for several years now that show him opening each day of his Advent Calendar. I know, I know, I’m repeating myself here. But I have the feeling that today’s door opening will be quite funny.
A few days ago Grant had asked me what the key and tempo was for Christmas Brought Me You. Its amazing what you will and won’t remember about your own songs. I knew the key, but I didn’t remember the metronome to the exact bpm. Either way, last night Grant gave a me a preview of the song he created from remixing my song and some new lyrics for his podcast.
It’s one of those things where it’s so bad, it’s brilliant. ‘Nuff said on that. You’ll have to head over to Grant’s Advent Calendar dot com to see the opening for Dec. 16th 2008.
Because of that, I’m going to showcase a song I helped produce by another project Grant is fully immersed in, Throwing Toasters. It’s a take off on the whole pop boy band type thing. What made me think of this immediately after watching the Advent Calendar video and the remix of Christmas Brought Me You is the use of the Autotune on the voice. Something that got popularized by Cher, and has filtered to others like Brittney, and Kid Rock.
We had a lot of fun making his record. It’s that simple. And it shows. Grant’s a boatload of fun and it’s amazing how much work he puts into it. Support the man. Seriously.
What makes it even more funny is that I’m in cohoots with one of the biggest names in the genre now, Maurice Starr. In fact, he’s in the midst of creating a new boy band, literally of boys around the age of 10-11. The bonus is, a couple of songs I’ve written with Femke Weidema, Brandon James, and April Matson are being considered for the project. That’s pretty darn cool.
Have a great day!
