I’ve done it. I’ve made the leap to being inked. I decided that since so many people like the song Hero Unexpected and that I liked it so much I decided to get the audio wav form and the title put on me. It wasn’t nearly as painful as I had expected it might be. Actually it didn’t really hurt at all.
The interesting thing was the fact that all the tattoo artists that saw the idea thought it was cool. They had never seen an idea like that. So one, it was original – at least to the place I went and the people that saw it. That’s always good in my book. But then I strive for that.
Now comes the fun of making sure it heals well. I was given some ointment and told to go purchase some lubriderm to put on it for the next month. I was told that it would go through some stages of healing and such. It should be interesting to see how it finally looks once it’s all healed up. Woo hoo. I’m already quite sure that people will ask what it is, but that’s sorta the point isn’t it? I could imagine being in a fantasy episode of something like a leave it to beaver type thing. Some little person of like 7 years would come up and say, hey mister, what is that on your arm?
Speaking of saying hey mister. Today’s bluesy number is all about bringing some attention to someone. There’s a whole of irony in this song. Think about the lyrics for a moment as you’re listening. It’s a guy telling another guy that his wife is cheating on them. How nice is that? Dude, I’ve been nailing your wife but now she’s off nailing someone else too. And who says women aren’t into sex and cheating? Obviously not everyone is like that but I’m sure it happens. Though imagine the cajones it takes to tell the husband the woman has been cheating on THEM. Not him, but them.
I like the old school flavor of the song. The 12 bar blues of it. There’s a reason why the blues form has survived for so long. It really works. There are a few variations on the 12 bar format, but as a whole it’s usually the 12 bar form that people remember and latch on too. I have to wonder if it’s the shuffle beat of the blues that has ingrained itself into my idea of the bouncing rhythm that I tend to love so much in more modern songs. Hmmm… That could be.
It’s a little strange that Fitzgerald and Beach are on CD Baby but have not gotten themselves onto iTunes. It’s the only reason why they’re a Sunday’s Child. Hopefully that will change. Until then, I urge you to head over to CD Baby and snag that CD.
Bob Beach is simply the most awesome musical force in the Delaware Valley and one heck of a harmonica player as many will attest. DC Fitzgerald was a fine man, a great picker and songwriter. Their work together is classic, collectible, and food for the soul.
A classic blues duo at it’s best! Great Chemisty; Fitzgerald
