How does one go about creating a Rock God? Is it the clothing, the hair, the glasses, the shoes, the body size? Or is it the music? Maybe it’s the way they stand? Or the friends they keep? Hmmm… Maybe it’s the tattoos they get. Anyone know if Dave Matthews has one? Of course punkier bands like Green Day, Fallout Boy, The Used, they’ve got ’em. John Mayer, even Devin Bronson (played guitar for Avril). Maybe it’s the way they play music or the instrument they play. What makes the ultimate Rock God? That’s a good question.
These are the burning questions that enquiring minds want to know. They also represent an idea I’ve got percolating. When I get more of it brewed up I will let people know. It will be something fun.
In the meantime, I’m expanding into a new genre today. A genre of Polka.
Gasp!
What is this sound pouring out of the speakers of your computer right now? It’s a polka tune from a Grammy winning band. Mind you, I primarily know of polka as a genre geared towards German Beer get-togethers – Oktoberfests and such.
For some strange reason this particular song caught my ear and I decided to express it to all of you. I don’t know a lot about polka other than the fact that it doesn’t strike me as a genre that has tattooed musicians playing it. That’s not to say there aren’t tattooed polka players. It just doesn’t make me think of it.
It’s part of that crazy mind of mine. Where I’m testing out what it’s like to mix two things that don’t normally go together, just to see what it’s like. Why? Cause I’m bold like that. Sit back. Relax. Grab a beer, and in this instance, think about someone you care about and miss. The Versatones have got it covered.
Great sound like a progressive jazz type sound with Tex-Mex in it, Luv the Versatones, nice vocals !!!!!! Need more from this group !!!!
that whole c.d. is great

Very nice. And, if you don’t know Polka, there’s so much more to it than the Beer Barrel Polka, and these guys play fantastic old style polka… I remember hearing them play Under the Bridge, Far Away From Home, just to name a couple. Wonderful! If you get a chance to see them live, go for it! Life’s short-try something new!
Perfect for mix tapes! In the last few years the Versatones’ leader Eddie Blazonczyk has written a lot of really nice pop tunes and arranged them in traditional polka style- he’s a very good composer and singer. He also knows how to take someone else’s pop or country song and transform it with ease and respect for both genres. The albums flow really well with seamless shifts between new material and traditional polkas played by a great band. I don’t think there are many out there in Polkaland as good as he is- but I’d be happy to be wrong.… Read more »
I have been a follower of polka music for years. I grew up on it, as did my mom. I’m only 26 years old, and it’s amazing how many people younger then me have been coming out to polka dances and loving it. Alot of the bands now a days aren’t your old time umpa crud that came from polkas past. They are up to date, energetic, get the crowd going entertainers, who need to be appreciated more!!!! Great job at picking Eddie Blazonczyk’s Versatones as your first polka genre song!!! Also look for the bands, The Knewz, Lenny Gomulka,… Read more »
I agree wholeheartedly with all previously posted comments. Polka music is absolutely dynamic, and is something that should be experienced LIVE to fully appreciate its energy! The Versatones web site has links to many bands, so you can search for one in your area. (You may even be lucky enough to find the Versatones are traveling to your neck of the woods for a performance.) In my opinion, BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED is one of Eddie Jr’s best!
It seems I’m not the only person who is enjoying the polka!
This music is Great…….I love it…..Really makes me feel like just getting up and dancing…..What Happy Music…Great Job Versatones
That’s really the whole point. Music getting into your soul.
