Here we go again. Kickin off another week with something heavy!
I’m a little behind on LOST. That up and down roller coaster of a TV show. I’ve taken to watching it on ABC.com. Why? Well, aside from their “limited” commercial interruptions, the video quality is quite good. Especially for a full screen viewing at 30″. The concept of their limited commercial interruptions is a crock of shit. It’s probably the most intrusive form of advertising I’ve ever seen. What makes it even worse is when the browser goes blank. It never fails. At least once every time the browser will fail to load their “commercial”. At that point I have to reload the damn thing and start over from the beginning. Then it will force me to sit through every commercial up to the one that failed. If it happens again next week, I can bet that I’ll be going back to iTunes – FUCK THE COMMERCIALS.
I get to spend some time on the phone with PayPal today as well. What a treat. Setting up a new venture and PayPal has already screwed up their end multiple times and it’s a major pain in the butt attempting to get it fixed. Now I understand why business owners hire assistants. Here I’d rather be thinking about music and writing my next song, or at the very least finishing one of the 47+ new ones I have in the works. But no, I’ve got to mess with PayPal. At this point with the time wasted with them, I’ll be working on getting my fees back and going with another provider. I’m excited for the website it’s for though – music related of course!
In the meantime, lets take a listen to yet another band recommended to me by my Swedish buddy Chris Hellstrom. Today we’ve got Mercenary out of Denmark. I’d liken the sound on this particular song as some sort of bizarre cross of Dream Theater mixed with dance music instruments and some screamo for good measure. Like Threat Signal from last week, I’d say that among all the screaming metal type of stuff this is extremely well produced. Sometimes that’s what it takes for a style to really break out from it’s underground roots.
I understand that this type of music isn’t likely to be mainstream anytime soon. Mostly because of the screaming. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth hearing. The musicianship is top notch. It’s obvious all the guys in this band have an ability to play their instruments. Can’t beat that.
Now go find yourself! If you’re lost, click the link to iTunes above. You’ll find yourself in a hurry there! Then go bang yur head in grand fashion with your iPod and your friends.
(** Disclaimer: If Mercenary’s label decides to send me to an island to be lost, I’ll have to banish the audio to such a place first. The post will remain to show my disdain for advertising and paypal. **)
