The fun continues. Presidential primaries are still in swing. Next stop Florida and the Florida primaries. Candidates are swinging back and forth. Piling on the rhetoric so thick that it’s a mess. My current favorite for rhetoric is Giuliani. Supposedly prior to today he had Florida in his hands. So far, that’s not the case. Now his stance is a wait and see what happens in Florida before he announces if he’ll drop out. Swing, swing, swing, the politicians go back and forth.
Love can be the same way. Someone has to take the lead and put themselves out there to see what the other person will say. It’s a tough game. That’s the subject matter of today’s song lyrics. Kym Tuvim has a real nice quality going on here. First the guitar part is what I would call a really cool riff in the round. Especially in the verse. It’s got a great roll. I also like the swing in the 16th note feel. At least that’s how I would put the feel to it. As it’s been said in the past, it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.
The drums here have a real nice quality to the laid back groove that their laying down. It’s hard for a lot of drummers to get that lazy faire type of groove going, let alone to perpetuate it. It’s the kind of groove that I could lay down on my back and listen to for hours. I could come up with all kinds of guitar riffs over stuff like this. It’s so open to so many possibilities.
Kym has set up the vocal rhythm to cleverly follow a combination of the whole rhythm being laid down by the drums, bass and guitar. It’s got a great lilt. I also appreciate the pulsating feel its got. Not to mention that there isn’t a ton of compression going on all over the place so each part has a chance to rise and fall. Oh how I like that. It gives some much more interest to what is going on. Wouldn’t you agree?
