An all to common tale, rooting for the shrimp, the 98 lb weakling, the david, the underdog. Think Mike James the basketball player from Amityville. Yes, that Amityville of Amityville Horror fame. Mike’s a bit of an underdog, isn’t he? How about Kirsten Hagland? Was she the underdog before being crowned Miss America for 2008? Andy Finch, a former champ, has now become an underdog that we can root for. We like rooting for underdogs as so often we’re part of that crowd looking to make it to the top of the dog heap.
Lots of times it’s the underdog who is underestimated yet works harder at achieving the goal. When that happens it’s often a sweeter victory. Right? I have some first hand experience so I’ll go ahead and say yes. I’ve done some things in competition in sports that have surprised even me. We all like to win. However, I’m more concerned with enjoying what I’m doing. I think if I enjoy it while doing it, I’ll be happier at the end. Of course it makes it all the better when you place first. Don’t it?
That’s the obvious message behind today’s uptempo ditty on Single of the Day – Underdog. No I don’t mean the movie. Nor the classic cartoon from which it came. I mean J.P. Williams and his positive outlook. That’s what I really like about this song. It’s super positive. It fits the vibe, it fits the music. It’s all working in harmony.
J.P. is probably a good testament to being an underdog. It so happens that he is visually impaired. So he knows what it’s like to be an underdog. But look what he’s accomplishing! Playing fun music, touring the world, and spreading some joy to everyone else. That’s a success story if I’ve ever heard one. While it’s not readily available yet, I’m sure J.P. would love to hear from you at his myspace or his website. Get on his list and tell him you want to know when you can buy the song. Of course you want to buy the song. It’s going to be part of your life’s soundtrack when you’re feeling down and need a pick me up. Right?
Right.
Stay dry and have fun.
