When exactly would beauty become a disaster? Interesting question. I’m a guy so let’s relate this to males (women, you’ll need to insert your prefs as needed). Who’s a hottie? Let’s pick Jennifer Connelly, Keira Knightley, or maybe Scarlett Johansson. I’m sure there are more I could rattle off, but that’s a good cross section right? Ladies – add your men. Ok. Now I find those three attractive. However, I have no real idea what they’d be like in person, behind closed doors. If I’m any indication, they’re human (duh). Forget the human factor for a moment and stick with the fantasy. Ah, fantasies, they’re great right? In my mind it would likely be some sort of ideal relationship between any one of these women. That’s the beauty.
Next step, meeting in person. Through some bizarre twist of fate I’m thrust into a situation where I’m meeting one of those women. By blind luck she’s single and I’ve man enough to ask her out. Woo hoo. Now the fun begins. I find out that the true person behind the fame isn’t the same. Uh oh. Now I find out that maybe said beauty is a nightmare in person. Suddenly I’m associated with her in the tabloids and voilá, I’m now experiencing what others would assume is pure bliss but the reality is a total mess. Hmmm… Ok, that didn’t really work as I intended. Oh well. I’m really happy you’re still reading this far after that silly connection in my mind.
Ooooooooh, wait. I got it! I’m an American Nobody. See that fantasy works if you’re a nobody meeting a somebody. Right? Ah. Actually I’m not an American Nobody. Chances are you aren’t either. However, today’s song is by a band called American Nobody and chances are, they are American Nobodys who are actually somebodys. Ha ha.
Time for a moment of serious. Why did I choose this song? Pure and simple. I liked a particular effect buried in there with the guitar. That’s what drew me in in the first place. Once I got in there, I had to keep cruising. That’s the sign of an effective song. Not a whole lot of fantasy involved in that eh? I actually like the mellow vibe of the vocal. I would probably like a bit more production on the vocals to fit more of the vibes being done on the guitars. But that’s a minor thing. I can look past it. The low melodies in the spots are cool. I’m left wanting more of that. Simple solution, keep rewinding to it. That’s also a sign of something good in a song.
See good things come in beautiful packages. Even if they are potential disasters. Go make your disaster beautiful with this as the soundtrack (buy it of course).
This song is amazing! Thank you for posting it! It’s a great way to start my day.
Glad you liked it Laurel. I’m sure American Nobodys love to hear that.
American Nobody is an amazing talent. I saw him live the other day at Portland’s Saturday Market Main Stage. He has loads of stage presence and is way sexy in a beautiful-bone-structure-body-of-death-gorgeous-head-of-hair sort of way. AND he’s a talented songwriter and musician. I know. It isn’t fair. But life isn’t fair, and anyone who tells you different is trying to sell you something. He’s an amazing performer, so if you get a chance to see him live you really ought to do it. Please get the discs too. He’s also known as Brian Granse which is the name he used… Read more »
I agree with Madrigaal… Seeing American Nobody perform this song at a LIVE venue is simply the best. What a great song!
Wow! We listened to this together after chuckling at the silliness of the comments by the songwriter. We love the haunting melody and insightful lyrics. I usually prefer unplugged sounds to special effects but this one works for me!
Good to know he’s good live too.
Yeah, there’s some good stuff in there. It’s fun too.
Great song. I have seen him perform a few times. His music keeps getting better and better. I am forever a fan.
Sweet!
Love it!!!! We saw him live in Illinois. He puts on a great show. If you like this song – you’ll find the whole CD is outstanding.
I saw Ryan live in Southern Illinois and got a chance to hang with him in Denver. He is an amazing talent with a wealth of vocal range. If you ever get a chance to see him live…do yourself a favor…and check it out. I’d also highly recommend buying his CD. It is packed with great lyrics and fantastic acoustics.
