Rainy days and mondays always get me down…
What if the two were combined? It’s actually not raining yet, but the skies sure look threatening. Stop threatening, rain already. Oh the world of weather and it’s affect on the state of mental being. Actually for me, it’s really a nice change of pace. It’s good to have some chill precipitation now and then, keeps things in perspective.
I’d would have chosen Led Zepplin’s The Rain Song for today, seeing as how they’ve finally stepped into the 21st century. It was announced today that they have finally chosen to make their music available on the digital download services. Too bad they don’t already have it in place just yet. There’s two songs for you to contemplate while you’re listening to today’s selection.
Then again that wouldn’t be so true to my blog roots. Featuring huge acts. Thus you’re actually listening to the likes of Preston Reed. He’s a true inspiration to acoustic guitar players. A very percussive style. Lots of banging, popping, slapping, and tapping. I’ve yet to meet this troubadour in person and I can’t wait until I do. While I don’t stake my entire style on this vibe, I have been known to bust it out once in a while.
I remember when I first heard Preston Reed. The CD jumped out at me. I couldn’t stop listening. He’s got a very keen style. It’s certainly steeped in the likes of Michael Hedges and Leo Kottke, but he makes it his own. That’s the real test of genius – can the artist take his influences somewhere beyond where he picked it up and adapted it?
If you haven’t explored much of Single of the Day or even Preston Reed. Do yourself a favor and go back about a year and poke around. Also, follow that link to CD Baby. That’s where you can hear some more clips from his CD Ladies Night. If you’re inclined you can buy the whole CD right there nice and easy like. Then you can break out this song on a rainy day. Or on any day where you’d like to have some rain.
Then maybe next time there’s a rainy day, I might have to break out a Tal Bachman song called Looks Like Rain.
Hahaha. It started storming last night with continuous down-pours til around 2:30p(MONDAY!). Last night was awesome, falling asleep to the rain and Thunder, but this morning sucked the big one.
Anyway, I love this guy’s sound. He reminds me a bit of the sound from Rusted Root. I loved their percussion sound and the rythems they played.
