Well, things seem to be coming down to the wire. I’m supposed to go in today or tomorrow to sign papers for funding for the marketing and promotion of my CD. However, it’s still feeling like it’s not gonna happen. Why is that? I keep telling people I’m not going to hold my breath. Like lots of artists who are promised things after so many of them are false or don’t come through you can merely say “yeah, right.”
The unfortunate thing in that is, you begin to sound jaded. I’m mostly a positive person. Heck even my blood type is positive (AB+) although rare. The other unfortunate thing is that because of one person screwing things up. It’s screwing things up for me all the way around. Maybe I’m thinking out loud too soon. I guess if nothing happens by tomorrow at 5 p.m. I can scream to the world and start on a warpath.
In the meantime, I’m running around still cleaning up some things around the house. Making phone calls. Setting up appointments to finish songs, etc… Thus it’s why I feel like I’m running around like a chicken with its head cut off.
The perfect compliment to that feeling is Brad Paisley’s The Nervous Breakdown. I suppose a breakdown is something lots of country guitar players come up with. It’s their version of rock guitar solo. I know I learned a thing called Steve’s Breakdown while going to music school. It was a little ditty – not as long as what you’re hearing now – by one of my guitar teachers who was into country pickin’.
As far as playing a breakdown goes, I would have to put country licks like this on par with the stuff that say Van Halen did when he came out. The reason is, they maintain these crazy speeds with cool runs that are often complicated and have multiple strings being struck through the scale runs, like a cross string type action – something most rock solos never go near.
Next time you’re feeling like your going out of your mind and are about to breakdown, think of this song. Better yet, add it to your collection. Then play it to wind up so you can cool down, before you go crazy.
(** Disclaimer: If Brad’s label decides to cause me a breakdown, I’ll have to cut them off at the pass by removing the audio. The post will remain to show that I’m attempting to keep my cool head in troubling times. **)
