If you could be anyone in the world, who would it be? When we’re like three or four we tend to create imaginary friends. We probably also imagine what it would be like to be someone we think is awesome, is a hero, or does something we can’t do. I can only speak for me but at that age I can remember wanting to be a fireman. That probably had something to do with our house catching fire when lightning struck a tree in a storm in the middle of the night. It caught fire and cracked an hit the roof and caught the roof on fire.
It was quite an experience for a little kid. Being woken up in the middle of the night and having to be taken out of the house. I remember having to go back in for my little red toy firehat. Maybe I’m hallucinating, but I’m pretty sure I had one of those. After we got out, my parents left us (my sister and I) with a neighbor. I think he was an older gent, like a grandpa or something. I distinctly remember him pulling out some candy for us to comfort us. It was little hard candies of multicolor on a thin sheet of paper. I have no clue what those are called or if they even still make them.
After returning home the next day I remember it being very soggy in the house. Everything smelled burnt and wet. I believe there was more damage due to water than fire. Oh well. I think that experience taught me that firemen don’t sleep much. Even at that young age I think I knew it wasn’t fun.
One of the most famous stories in the world is written up in the bible and it’s main characters are Jesus and his dad, God. As the story goes Jesus did some pretty amazing things. So if there is one person to emulate it could very well be him. He was capable of creating things out of thin air, defying gravity, and was even able to come back from the dead. All qualities that any sane person would likely want to have. I know it would be fun to create things magically out of thin air. It would be awesome to fly, let alone walk on water and also to know that you could be like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day. Though if it was the same day over and over like that movie it would likely be a huge curse.
I saw Chuck a couple of weeks ago. He was a feature performer at a songwriters showcase and for good reason. Chuck has written some memorable songs for some big artists from what I’m told. What I do know is that Chuck has a magical presence on stage. He smiled pretty much the entire time on stage. He reminds me of a musical version of Sam Elliot. Sam Elliot is one of those actors that just has a flair that is all him and he’s cool no matter what. Chuck has that same coolness. He’s just cool when he’s singing a song.
One of those songs he played that night was this one you’re hearing now. I thought it was extremely clever. You’ll probably have to listen to the song a couple of times so that you can get the references made. They’re so cool it’s frightening. The way he played it that night was awesome, way more bluesy than what you’re hearing here. Either way the song just works. I highly recommend you heading over to the CD link and getting that whole disc. Chuck has song after song of great writing. You won’t be disappointed. I swear. When you do, tell ’em Jody sent ya. It’ll put a smile on his face. 🙂
Very, very cool tune! I’m not surprised, Chuck really knows how to get to that place where thoughts just flow from from the ether to your pen. He’s been a tremendous help to me in my songwriting career and it’s finally starting to pay off. As far as I’m concerned he’ll never need to pay for a drink when I’m around.
