Sometimes you need a change of pace. It can be as simple as changing your breakfast routine. Actually what you eat for breakfast. My last trip to San Francisco was with Claire and her brother. I remember breakfast at the Marriot. One thing I like to do when I’m on a vacation, no matter how big or small is to try something on the menu that I don’t normally get at home. Often it’s eggs benedict as it was that day. I think it came recommended. Actually when I visit my mom we tend to go to a place in Park City called the Eating Establishment and I can go there without a menu. I’ll generally order one of two things… eggs benedict or a hungry miner.
I like to vary my breakfast. At home it could be eggs and bacon. Maybe cereal (though not that often). Sometimes an omlette. I do like Lox and Bagels too, that feels refined as a breakfast to me. But there is one thing that I do well for breakfast and that’s waffles. I make a mean waffle breakfast. I create my own batter from scratch (I wish I had the recipe of my grandpa as it was a long process and they were good) with all organic ingredients. I mix it all up and get the waffle iron nice and hot. Then I pour it on, woo hoo. I do some other secret stuff but I won’t reveal it here cause I may open a restaurant someday, I even have the name too. Let’s just say they’re damn good. My mom and everyone else always asks for them after they’ve tried them.
Hell, it’s a good thing I’m about to make breakfast. Maybe as a nice change I’ll make some in a moment. As I said it’s good for a change, just like the weather. I like clouds and we don’t see them often in LA. It’s rumored that they’re outlawed here, so someone is obviously breaking the law bringing them in, but I’m happy to see them anyway. Speaking of rumors. Are rumors a form of gossip? Hmmm…
Another friend of mine, Bob Karwin, once wrote a song called Gossip. It was nothing like today’s song. Bob’s song isn’t bad, it’s fun and it’s funny. However Anna’s is introspective to me. It’s spritely, and heavily expressive. There’s mood, there is playfulness. As an instrumental it’s got great pop elements to it. Something a lot of classical doesn’t seem to have to my ear. She’s got repeating elements and treats it very much like a song. That is a great quality. It holds my interest.
Besides the useful song structure, the production is great. I think there’s where I’m getting the introspective thing from. Not only do I get that, I feel intimate with the instruments. Not many recordings give me that feeling. That’s another plus. Heck, if I need strings on my next CD, I know who I’m callin’. There’s a vibe here that I don’t usually here in such instruments. Then again, I don’t listen to Yo-Yo Ma much. Maybe he’s got that vibe to, however, I bet he’s a tad out of my price range. Anna travels alot to perform, at least that’s the idea I get from reading her website. So if you see her performing let me know what it’s like.
Show her some lovin. Get this intimate playful thing for yourself, click that iTunes link. I dare ya.
