Ah, Wednesday, otherwise known as Hump Day. No, not my lady humps. It would be pretty scary if I had lady humps or bumps. No, in fact here in Southern California its already shaping up to be damn hot. Hot and spicy like a latin dance floor. We’ve had a large fire break out in Los Angeles yesterday. In a fairly populated part of town too. Interestingly enough though it’s probably 10 to 15 miles from me to the East and South, as I went running this morning I could smell the fire in the air. Hmmm, no breezes going on, ouch it’s already damn warm.
Running in heat like this is brutal. I suppose I’ll have to work on getting up earlier – yeah right. I’m usually up really late, how can I get up earlier. In fact in the time between when I got up and when I finally got out the door the temperature rose 6 degrees. By the time I got back from the run it was up 10 degrees from when I left. Needless to say I was dripping wet and certainly very heated. So I stopped in the shade of my trees and turned on the hose to water me down a little. Then took a long cold shower. Am I really this vain to look good, or is being healthy really this damn hard?
This song reminds me a bit of the feelings as I did the run. Usually when I start I’m on a slightly woozy ground, then by the first block I’m running at a good clip. Especially this morning. I knew as I left, I was in for a heater. I was going good for about 3/4 of the run, by the last little bit I was beginning to struggle. I felt like stopping, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do that. I kept pushing and pushing. It’s what I do. Like the song, I was winding down under the tree in the shade with water to have a relaxing finish. Though it really takes time to wind down.
Technically speaking in terms of all the music I’ve featured here on Single of the Day, this album has been far been one of the most brilliantly recorded. The depth and space in it is astounding. The Cello alone gives me goose bumps because I feel like I could be the one in the cellist’s chair bowing the damn thing. That’s intimacy and depth you don’t normally get even in the big boy’s releases. The nylon guitar is shimmering too. The flute, the piano, the percussion, everything is stunning. It’s all held extremely well together. I have to show my one man applause to Joe Vannelli who engineered this thing cause it’s awesome sounding. Stephan has to be proud of this CD.
If you’re really into this jazzy style that is reminiscent of movie soundtracks I have to recommend that you go beyond my choice of Single of the Day and click the CD cover to pick it up at CD Baby and get the whole CD. It’s solid from front to back, there’s no if’s and’s or but’s about it.
