If you haven’t been reading/listening to Single of the Day for a long time, you might have missed the fact that I’m a fan of LOST. Unlike any of my past favorite shows from when I spent time in front of a TV under the parental’s roof, this one has a lot of ups and downs. Ups and downs in terms of how good it really is. When it’s good, it’s really damn good, when it’s ok, it really more or less sucks. At the beginning of the current season, which they split into two shorter seasons for no good reason, it was on a major down turn into the land of suckass. Based on the previous two seasons I stuck it out and it’s starting to salvage itself.
I’ve yet to own a TV on my own, so I have to catch up on this stuff through friends or by the handy iTunes or heading off to ABC.com to watch episodes. Last night’s episode, and the past couple of weeks have gotten back to good stuff. It’s back to the sneaky-what-the-hell-are-the-others-up-to-kind-of-shit that I like about it. I envision that the show is past the Cast-Away meets the X-Files part and is now on to Mission Impossible meets National Treasure.
Anyone care to join me in a comment discussion on what Julianne is doing?
The interesting thing is how our heroes are all wanting to get home. Then when one gets the chance another one fucks it all up. At times I’d like to put a bullet in Locke for being a nut case who really only thinks about himself and how he’s some divining rod for the island. Jack on the other hand has no clue that Claire is his step sister and is putting a lot of faith into a character that also wants to go home and will do anything to get there.
Erin ended up noticing something that hadn’t struck me before. In a vast majority of the episodes they’ve been playing the same song in flashbacks and various places on the island. Do you know the title? I’m not gonna give it away. I have to think there is a very good reason for it, again something to discuss and mull over. At some point though, they’ll have a flashback or a memory sequence, actually a current side-story that relates to a relative on the island where they’ll need a more apropriate song about the relative that is longing for getting the cast-away home.
A song that would be ideal for that scene is today’s Single of the Day choice, Come Home. Unlike yesterday’s song this one is a prime example of lyrics that are befitting of the vibe of the music. That dire desire to back with the one you miss. There’s something very clever about these guys. I believe it’s the first time I’ve ever heard the title of the album where it’s a line in a song on the CD but not the title of a song. The title of the album is “Simplicity Is The Name Of The Game”. You’ll have to listen carefully in the lyrics cause it’s in there. It’s one of those subtle things that probably very few people ever would notice. BING – I did. That is certainly something that I may borrow as an idea in the future.
Another plus is the cool arrangement of the song. I like how naked and small it starts and slowly builds then bang it opens up. It’s good solid songwriting that isn’t done by a lot of bands these days. If you trip by their website you’ll see they’re out on tour right now. I have no clue if they pull off a good live show, but I’d put money on it that they’re worthwhile. Why? With songwriting chops like this I’d say you can’t be terrible live.
Another thing that really works is the singers voice. He really has that urgent need feel totally together. I know that if you’re diggin on this song you’ll enjoy the rest of the EP. Wanna see a full length disc? Part your cash from your wallet and then get some friends to do the same. It can help get State and Madison grow.
OK, so you know how hard it is to compare how you sound to other bands out there – I thought this was you singing this!!! It sure as heck sounds like you.
These guys kick butt. there incredible live, im actually going to see them live tonite in council bluffs. anyone who hasnt listened to them yet is missing out. check them out, you’ll be glad you did!!!!!
State and Madison put on a must see, amazing show. Just seeing them once in a very short set will leave you desperate for more. These boys have so much energy that it is impossible not to get hyped up. They are all over the stage jumping up on equipment and rocking out. The lead singer is amazing to watch, he has this magnetic energy that just draws you to him when he sings. All the group is a fabulous must see.
Good to know Rachel and Anna. I’m sure at some point I’ll probably have a show on the same bill with them.
Geez, I thought my voice sounded enough like me that I wouldn’t sound like this guy. But then I’m used to my voice and I know it isn’t me. Maybe that’s another reason why I like his singing though cause we do phrase some things similarly.
State and Madison rocks. No joke.
Ah, and we’re Lost fanatics. We have a tune on our profile titled “Life In The Hatch” if you’re interested. Enjoy!
Yes, they do rock. Congrats on the song. I love LOST. I’m also getting into Heroes now too.
