This is a different kind of Thursday. I’m feeling like I’m taking control of my life. I was supposed to have a meeting about a career switch today, but instead I’ve decided to call the company and say sorry, I’m unable to make it to your interview. In fact, I’ve decided to indefinitely leave it on hold. I’m not done with music. Think I’m kidding?
I do have a session with Devin Bronson who used to play with Avril Lavigne. He’s actually been out on the road as of late with Ashley Parker Angel. Anyway, earlier this year he rang me up to do some writing and production. We didn’t get to finishing it as quickly as we had planned because of the Ashley Parker Angel gig. Well, we’re firming up some ideas today to get ready to do the final recordings. Music is more important to me. Devin and I are putting together a bunch of instrumental rock tracks. You might just hear of a solo CD by Mr. Bronson.
In light of the nature of instrumental music, I figured what the hell, I think a Single of the Day can be a song without vocals once in a while – oh twice the past week already. I have done it in the past. I’ll likely do it again in the future. This is the funkiest song I’ve picked yet. Straight up funk baby! This is a type of music that if I were to get out and shake my rump to, this is the kind I’d like to shake to. It’s got groove, feel, funk, soul, dripping with talent. That last sentence was horrible English and I don’t care. It’s funky.
I can’t remember where I came across Whitey’s Carnival of Funk, but I can tell you I really like to put it on now and then. The actual composer is Chris Anderson. Have you heard of him? Probably not, but I’ll bet you’ve heard his music if you’re into horror or playboy. Let me give you a few examples… Jack Frost II, Sex and the Teenage Mind, Playboy: Freshman Class, Day of the Dead II, etc. Not exactly the resumé you’d expect for the creative mind that produced this. That’s life I suppose. I read somewhere that Chris has members of Tower of Power playing on this. From the sheer musicality of it, I believe it.
Get your groove on more often by owning this little gem and of course I think you owe it to yourself to explore the rest of Whitey’s Carnival. Be funky with your bad self. Good God.
