Its not often you come across a songwriter way outside your ballpark that you like to listen to. But for me, Don Campbell is one such writer. I think what instantly caught my ear is this song. Outside of myself, I’ve never heard a mainstream sounding songwriter ever, and I mean EVER, use a diminished chord. So my senses instantly perked up. You’ll hear this chord in my song That’s What It Is at the end of the chorus and in another song of mine as well. Here it is right in Don’s Chorus too.
Too boot, Don is a super nice guy. I’ve met him a few times and chilled at dinner chatting about music. He’s a master performer and a fantastic songwriter. Though I prefer a much more rock edge in my music, I certainly appreciate great writing. That’s sorta my whole gist with the blog. So while I’m turning you onto well produced music by generally unknown artists. I’m also expanding your songwriting skills appreciation. You should check out Don’s other albums, there’s a ton of great music on them.
